Snow chains and Snow socks
Within conditions of severe weather, fitting of compatible snow chains or snow socks will ensure significantly improved vehicle traction. When fitting snow chains/ socks, there are a few things to consider:
Always ensure that the selected snow chains are compatible with your vehicle’s tyres (by reading the accompanying label), and that you fit only manufacturer approved snow chains.
For rear-wheel drive vehicles – fit snow chains to both rear wheels. For all-wheel drive vehicles – fit snow chains to all wheels. Snow socks can be fitted on all four wheels.
Vehicles with fitted snow chains must not exceed speeds of 30 mph or else there is a risk to the integrity of the tyres. Never park your vehicle with snow socks attached, as the fabric can adhere to cold surfaces and damage the sock. To ensure longevity of fitted snow chains/ socks, always ensure removal when leaving snow-covered areas, and avoid driving on tarmac not covered by ice.
